The Mother Bear Project

The Mother Bear Project

Make a Bear. Make a difference.

I met a wonderful new friend on the blogosphere last week. Her name is Mare and she has an inspiring blog called Moon & Stars Studio.

As soon as I visted mare's blog, I was inspired by the teddy bears she was making for the Mother Bear Project .

"The Mother Bear Project is dedicated to providing comfort and hope to children affected by HIV/AIDS in emerging nations, by giving them a gift of love in the form of a hand-knit or crocheted bear. "

I immediately bought their pattern in the crochet version and made a bear to donate. The crochet pattern is very well written, easy to follow and fast to finish.

Here is my first completed bear.

I loved making him.

Emmitt thinks he is pretty cool too. :)

Whether you like to knit or crochet, the patterns they provide are a joy to complete.

It fills my heart with happiness thinking about who will soon be loving him.

If you would like to learn more about the Mother Bear Project and how you can help, please click here, and be sure to visit Mare's Blog to say hello. She is a talented artist with a huge heart.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

What a fantastic project and he is so sweet! You are always so amazing - finding about these wonderful and giving projects and then passing the world along AND contributing your time to craft so a sweet bear. You are one in a million Melissa!
Have a great weekend, and I will certainly check out the site.

That is a great cause to do something creative for. It's great when you can combine creativity with charity - giving something other than a check, you know?
Kudos to you and to Mare for coming up with such a great idea.

OH! Melissa your bear is WONDERFUL! Yours is the first crocheted bear i have seen! It's so funny. The first one took me a while to do as i am still learning how to knit. But after i finished that first one, i was amazed at how fast the second and third one came along! Now i have the next three bears colors planned, and am going to try to make one with a skirt! (Gulp!) Please keep posting the bears as you make them! I love to see how they come out... :)

Melissa, your bear is TOO cute! What a great project that Mare has started, and how nice of you to join in the cause!

I'm sure Emmitt was instrumental in your work. Pearl LOVES to help chew on the yarn when I knit. Pugs are so helpful! :)

Hi Melissa, thanks again for telling us about the mother bear project...when I saw the faces of those children...well, i just had to help. what a small symbol of love and hope a teddy bear is, but what a powerful statement they make.
