FUN Friday News! New Feathers in the Family! Meet Jimmie!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Oh MY Gosh!

I am so excited to introduce you to...

 Jimmie!

He is our beautiful new Parakeet we just adopted into our family!

He is only 2 months old, hatched on September 24, 2013!

It was so hard to keep him as a surprise for you!

The only thing that made it possible was that I did not even know if he was a boy or a girl and what to name him until we brought him home Tuesday night as he was too young to sex at that time!

He has his baby feathers and coloring right now but his face will be yellow and tummy, blue-violet.

He will also get a fluffier crown on the top of his head and loose the baby stripes that now reach down to his nare.

The dark spot on his beak will also go away as he matures in the coming months too!

He is hand fed and is already stepping up on my fingers!

I cannot wait to teach him to talk!

He and Gilbert are in separate cages and always will be, but they sing to each other and are very happy to have each other in the same family!

I was shocked when Jimmie's breeder told me our baby would have a yellow face and blue tummy as they are much more rare and I had recently created this image just for FUN in a collage just a few weeks ago!

I woke up one morning and just started making it!

It turns out it was Jimmie!

How amazing is that?

I saw him in my mind and recreated him on paper without even knowing it!

Life is Art ... Art is Life!

I made a birdie cage cover for both Gilbert and Jimmie to celebrate!

They are both made from twin sized flat sheets in retro colors that I got at the thrift store for $2!

To make Jimmie's I made a fabric recreation of the collage and sewed it on top and Gilbert's got orange pom poms!

Gilbert, Fred, Archie and I are so excited to welcome him home!

Friday Funnies ~ The Fibers of Life Connect Us All Together!

Happy Friday Everyone!

It is me...

R-Chee

Reporting here from my cozy kitchen with my parrotlet brother... 

Gilbert! :)

We have a FUN story for you of how we are really all connected by one very long piece of yarn!

My discovery of this wonderful thing happened when I heard the story my momma told me of her adventure to a real life yarn bombing installation right here in Denver at our Art Museum!

She loves seeing pictures of these beautiful works of art where fiber artists all over the world decorate objects with fiber art that they create to leave to share their art, color and lots smiles with everyone!

My pawrents had never seen one in person so when The heard about the one hung at the Denver Art Museum celebrating the show SPUN, they jumped in the car and off they went!

Wow!

Look at this crocheted masterpiece waving at us!

Isn't it fabulous!

Momma and Dad could not believe how detailed and huge it was!

They had so much FUN admiring it from all angles!

When they got home, they could not stop talking about it!

Momma was so excited that she immediately sent the photos to her friend Lynne in the UK and told her all about their adventure!

Lynne & Elliot told her there was a yarn bombing installation at a beach not far from her home in the UK in Saltburn!

Wonderful Wednesday! Melanie's Amazing New Afghan - From Scraps to Sensational!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Oh My Goodness!

Melanie has done it again!

Look at this fabulous crocheted wool afghan she just finished after 10 months of work!

It is amazing!

A Work of Art!

She made 100's of tiny granny squares from the left over wool yarn she had from her African Flower Afghan that absolutely took my breath away & made another family heirloom to cherish!

It is just amazing!

What a great way to use up all of the extra small bits of wool she had purchased for her first project!

What was once a  bag full of balled up scraps is now a rainbow of warmth!

R-Chee cannot wait to cuddle up with her in it!

He is practicing keeping his curly pug tail relaxed at home this morning to show Auntie Melly that he will not wag it madly and get it tangled up in it! :)

LOL!

He worked hard to unwind it today!

Create a Collage with Catalogs ~ Street Car

Happy Monday everyone!

R-Chee & I decided celebrate the new month of November with a quick collage made with scraps of colorful paper from torn catalogs & magazines and some kids' watercolor paints on a small 5 x 7 piece of watercolor paper.

I used the same technique I showed you when I recently made my parakeet collage, but I used watercolor paints to fill in the background instead of making one that I created in photoshop. :)

The first thing I did was make a quick pencil sketch of the street car and its surroundings.

It is important to be fast & free with your sketch and not get too picky!

Remember this is supposed to be FUN!

Then I tore only 3 pages from the catalogs with colors that I liked on the page and tore shapes, textures, people & numbers from them to fill in the street car by applying them with matte medium and a small brush!

Try not to tear too many pages out of the catalogs so that you do not get overwhelmed with the choices in front of you.

Fast & FUN!

The last 2 things I did to finish the scene were to quickly paint in patches of color for the background trees, grass, & shadows.

When the paint dried I took a fine black pen and filled in some defining lines and Voila!

I love to try new things to breathe new ideas and creativity into my current work by quickly shifting gears for a minute to play with something new.

I never know what I am going to end up with, but that is the FUN part.

Remember...it does not have to be a masterpiece!

Art is an expression of energy, life and process that we learn from.  It is part of our journey...not a destination. :)

Everyone is creative!

Whether your paint brush is has bristles or is a spatula in the kitchen or a keyboard you type on...

 

It is a tool to express YOU!
