The Poppy Poncho Makeover ~ Free Crochet Flower Pattern

Hi Everyone!

What a FUN project I have to share with you today!

Archie & I have been making crochet poppies!

I got the idea to do a makeover on the poncho I made in 2009 because I just did not feel it was me. :)

I guess it did not have enough color!

Ha!

The poncho was made from a free pattern I found on Lion Brand Yarn.

It is such a great pattern and the poncho is so warm and comfortable that I really wanted to make it "me" so that I would be excited to wear it this Fall. :)

At the time, I added white bobbles decorating the neckline so I thought they would be the perfect centers for some flowers.

I pulled out some orange wool yarn and made up a quick flower.

Here is the free pattern of how I made it:

Crochet Poppies Pattern

You will need:

G Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn
Yarn needle

Written in US Terms:

Ch = chain
Sl = slip stitch
Sc = single crochet
Dc = double crochet
Tr = treble crochet

Round 1: ch 10

Round 2: Join w a sl to form a large ring

Round 3: ch1, 10 sc into ring (=10sc)

Round 4: (to form petals) sc, dc, tr, dc, sc in each one of 10 sc stitches. (10 petals made) sl st to join end. Weave in ends.

Here is a PDF version of the poppy pattern for you to easily download, print & save.

I made 18 flowers for the poncho and one more for my new bobble hat to match! :)

*Note:  The 10 ch in the first round to make the large center ring was the perfect size to squeeze the bobble through and then sew the flowers on with my yarn needle and long ends from ending the flowers.

If you do not need a large center hole just chain less than 10 before you join it into a ring and then make 10 sc into that ring you do create. :)

Here is my poncho before the makeover...

... and here it is after!

I love how it turned out! :)

Ta Da!

R-Chee had so much FUN helping me make our poppies that he gave me a big kiss when we were done! :)

Please let me know if you make any of these crochet flowers for your projects.

I would love to see them!

The possibllities are endless.

You can change the kinds of flowers they are by changing the number of petals and/or the colors.

Wouldn't it be great to spend an afternoon making white & yellow daisies? :)

You can also change the size of your flowers by changing the hook size and the yarn weight for your project.

How FUN!

I cannot wait for Fall to arrive so I can wear my new poppy makeover creations! :)

Have a Super day everyone!
