Fabric Journal - Week 3

The Accordian Journal

This is my favorite fabric journal so far that we have made in Sue Bleiweiss's More Journal Making Class.

I used two of my new Amy Butler Fabrics that I purchased at the quilt fair eariler this month.
This book has an accordian folded spine where I sewed in 3 felt envelopes or pockets that I made instead of using paper envelopes.

I made 3 books to insert in each pocket and voila, my journal is complete. I really like this structure as you can make as many booklets as you like and keep putting them into the jouranl to always have a new journal to work in.
Melanie is just putting the final touches on hers and I will show you pictures as soon as she is done.

I have been asked an excellent question about the sewing requirements for this class. I am a very beginner sewer. I have a sewing machine but really have only sewn in straight lines (sort of straight) and that is all I need to know for this class. The only sewing we have done is just finishing the edges of the journals all the way around which can also be done by hand.
The rest is just ironing the fabrics to the stiffener material with a fusible web.
Anyone who wants to take this class absolutely should!

Are you working on any projects right now? What are your favorite hobbies? Emmitt and I would love hear what you are up to. :)

This is super cute, Melissa! I like that it is almost like a keepsake book - you could use it like a scrapbook and put memorabilia in the pockets! Nice job - you'll have to make these and sell them!

AND I have to tell you that you have me DREAMING of pugs !
My dream last night ... I was walking down my street and about 20 puppy pugs came leaping out to greet me .
It was a really happy dream

Hi Melissa, That journal is lovely, I love the fabric and the cloth pockets are really cute. You can use that in so many ways. I am still playing with amigurumi. I think crochet finally clicked in my head, so I can get the rows the same and get that nice pattern when it's done right. Photos tonight of the two birds I made...just about done with the second.
Hugs to you and Emmitt,
Puglette

That's pretty neat how the "pages" are really little pockets to put things in . . . when Mommy saw the first picture, she was wondering how you were going to write on the fabric (sometimes Mommy isn't so smart!)

I love the journal. I'm a fan of Amy Butler's although she's a completing fabric designer :) But our styles are different. I especially love that the journal has pocket pages. I love pockets!

After watching your journals, I am more excited to take the class! I am glad to not need the sewing machine. I have a very small one but can't use it. I am not very coordinated with machines.
