Happy Halloween 2009!

Happy Halloween Everyone!
It is me... Emmitt
I know, you thought a very handsome turtle took over the blog for the day!
Nope, it is just little ole' me, but something exciting did happen!
We had a powerful pre-Halloween blizzard here in Boulder, CO.
Mom thought it would be fun if she put me in my costume in the snow to show you the 20+ inches we just got!

Here I am in my snow suit... oh I mean turtle costume!

Is it real cold out there momma?
I think we better take extra treats with us to stay warm!
oh look!
Momma put on her snow suit... I mean turtle costume too!
We match!

The snow is pretty deep, but don't worry, I will lead the way!
*** Note to self: I knew I should not have eaten the trail of cheerios I laid on the way out. Ooops!
Stay warm and safe on your spooktabulous day!
I cannot wait to see what you are dressed up as this year.
I am coming to your blog now see!

Basket Weaving 101

Thank you so much for the wonderful birthday wishes yesterday! It really made the day extra fun! :)

As an early celebration, Melanie and I took a basket weaving class this past Sunday, and it was so much fun!

We started making our yarn baskets and are probably about 1/2 way done.

I am looking forward to this Saturday morning when we get together again and finish them.

I love taking classes at our favorite yarn store. Here is the classroom!

Look at all the pretty rattan weavers!

Here is Melanie working on her basket.

This is my basket so far...

and this is Melanie's...

I like that the yarn basket has an open top with no handle. I think it looks more like a woven bowl.
I will make more baskets in the future. It is very relaxing and each one is unique.
Our teacher, Margaret, was so right when she said the basket makes itself. We can help shape it, but it has its own personality and plan for how it will ultimately turn out.

I promise to show them to you again when they are all done. :)
Have you tried basket weaving before? What is your favorite structure to make?

A Colorful Life!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Today is my birthday, so I thought I would write about one of my favorite things in the whole world... Color!

I was reading my friend, Brenda Pinnick's, blog the other day and loved her new Color University articles.

She showed me that there are color pallets all around us!
Week 2 of Brenda's Color University brilliantly showed her color pallet was inspired by embroidery thread!

A few days later after reading her post, I realized that the circle-bobble squares are not just fun to make but are also color pallets for me to use on future projects that bring me happiness and joy.
I love picking out the colors and deciding which order to arrange them.

After each one is done, I think "How cool ~ I love that one!" and ... "Ooo that would make a great teddy bear, or sweater or painting or rug for my kitchen."

After I realized that I was creating my favorite color combinations with my yarn, I started looking at everything as a color pallet such as the food we put on our plates, the clothes I pick out to wear, and the sunsets we enjoy in the evening.

The colors bring me joy, inspiration and make me smile.

By making these squares, I am visually planning projects I have not made yet. It is like prepaving a wonderful journey.

How exciting is that?!
Here are some of my squares that I have been working on and the color swatches that I have libraried for reference...

I am working on a whole pile of them to send to Knit-A-Square for my October donation.
I think these colors will make a wonderful future Mother Bear or Bobble Sweater.

What are your favorite colors? Please let me know! I would love to hear!

Have a super colorful day!

The Circle Bobble Square

Hi Everyone!
I am so excited to show you this fun square I found a free pattern for online.
It is called the Circle-Bobble Square.

I love the 3-D effect of the bobble and the wonderfully written pattern that is easy to follow and has wonderful smooth transitions between the shapes.

I am making them for the Knit-A-Square charity for the October theme of using up our scrap yarn.

Here is my yarn for my next square!
Melanie and I are going to an all day basket weaving class on Sunday at our favorite yarn store.
I will take lots of pictures and show you next week what we make!
What do you have planned for the weekend? Please leave us a comment and let us know! We would love to hear all about it!

Heart Squares for Charity

Happy Thursday everyone!

Emmitt and I are having so much fun making these heart squares for Knit-A-Square.

The October 2009 Challenge is to create squares from your scrap yarn. I found two great free patterns that work perfectly. The first of the two patterns are these fun heart squares.

I will show you the second pattern tomorrow and the squares I have made from it so far.

I am so excited to show it to you! It is now my new favorite square pattern to crochet! :)
