Fabric Journals - Week 3

This week our fabric journal class had us make a book that works really well as a photo brag book or travel journal. It is made from two separate covers that are bound together with screw posts that can be extended to hold more pages.
I filled mine with paper, but you could easily add photo album pages or heavy cardstock with photo corners attached.
I like how the front cover flips back for easy access and how flat it lays when closed.
I used a Japanese fabric on the front and a polka dot pattern on the inside covers.
Melanie used a whimscial retro design that reminds me of candy. :)

Our teacher Sue Bleiweiss has created a new class for 2009 that is called Creative Box Making for the Fiber Artist.
Melanie and I are planning on signing up for the February Session. Please join us in the fun!
What classes are you taking either online or person that you enjoy? Do you have a favorite craft book or pattern that you are learning from? Leave a comment. I would love to hear all about it! :)

  3. LOVE your choice of fabrics! They really make the journals. I am so impressed with how you find time to take classes and continue with your own line of inspiring art work... do you sleep? =)

  4. Hi Melissa! Your journals are just beautiful! And i think it is so nice that you and your sister take the classes together...
Tonight i start my next 4 week knitting class. Weeks ago we decided to do a "mitten" class, but 2 of the three of us signed up for the class had things come up and they can no longer attend. So it is just me and the teacher! So i am open to learning mittens 1 on 1, or whatever! Unless someone shows up last minute, it will be like having a private class!

  5. How nice! Creative you!

I signed up for some online Adobe PSE classes, but for personal reason I was not able to get started. I really want to take them. I am going to ask if they can apply it to the next session.

  6. Hi Melissa! Your journal is beautiful, and the print is just so happy!

I am working on some knitting right now. I learned how in college and have stopped doing it for a while. I am trying to re-teach it to myself! I am starting with a VERY basic scarf to see how it goes.

    Have a great Wednesday!

  7. Hi Melissa! Wow! Those fabrics are so beautiful, I love the vibrant colors. I am about to branch out in my crocheting to wearable items. I will start with fingerless mitts. I am so excited, I will break into the new yarn.

  9. these are wonderfully done! I also adore the Corgi art doll in the post below!

I would love to take a journal making class some time...right now I just take a figure painting class, which I find helps my drawing skills a lot..but last winter I stepped out of my comfort level and took a lost wax casting class with silver. I loved it!!
I wish I lived closer so I could take that Creative box making class...then I would have a place to stash my stuff!

  11. Hi Melissa! I really loved your third journal, and Melanie's too! I am way behind, just started the second one yesterday. I was waiting for some fabrics I ordered in Etsy and I went yesterday to Michaels to get some thread. It is funny because at the beginning hubby would ask why I was doing the journals but yesterday he chose at Michaels lots of cute stuff for the next one!
