Day 3 - La Jolla Shores and The Flower Fields

Melanie and I were born in Los Angeles and my grandparents lived in Michigan. They would come out to visit and rent a place in La Jolla Shores where we went to stay with them. La Jolla Shores is across the cove or bay from the La Jolla Cove. It is mostly residential and beaches.

Mel and I have wonderful memories of the summer when we were 3, staying with Grandma and Grandpa. We would play on the beach and walk the boardwalk, where we met our very first dogs that we were allowed to help walk. They were a pair of Dachshunds, Bruce and Charlie. Charlie was brown and Bruce was black and tan. Bruce was a little chubby with his tummy hitting the ground as we walked. :) It is hard to believe that that was about 37 years ago now!

Mel and I went back and found the boardwalk and some little shops that look like they have been frozen in time. It was a magical feeling to be back with Melanie. We stopped at a little coffee shop and look at their tables! My friend Rebecca will appreciate these mosaics, and I was thinking of my friend Moira when talking about the Dachshunds.

Melanie on the boardwalk.

Here I am.

On our way back from the shores, we decided to stop off at the Carlsbad Outlet Shops. As we pulled in, our eyes got huge and said "What is that?!" When we saw the fields of color behind the mall. It was The Flower Fields and they only bloom this time of year. I could not stop taking pictures as we walked the rows of flowers. Here are a few of my favorite shots.

It was the perfect way to end a wonderful and successful trip. Melanie and I cannot wait to go back next year!

  7. Wow! Mom just caught up on her reading. Boy, did you have a fun time. The flower field is gorgeous. It is always fun to go back to a place that has such wonderful memories. The table looked great. Mom loved the mosaic tables, but she was really interested in the wall art above the table. Did you get any pictures of that? The pug massage looked "interesting" Lucky would love it. Not me. No way no how. 500 pugs? Wow. What a day. And the all you could eat buffet? Wah! Mom said I gained enough weight, back down to less food. What a great time you must have had.
