New Pug Yarn Painting ~ Come Play with Me!

Hi everyone!

Happy Monday!

I am so excited to show you my first yarn painting of 2011!

This little puggy wants to play with you!

Yarn paintings are so fun to make!

You can use any photo or drawing that makes you happy.

The key is to choose one that can be enlarged enough that you can fill in the shapes with your favorite yarns or threads.

I have found that if the shapes are too small to work with, it can be frustrating to get the yarn to fill in the way you would like.

I documented each step of how I made it for you to see...

First, I glued a print of my pug painting ~ design A18 ~ onto a 8 x 10 hemlock wood board with a glue stick and burnished it down with my bone folder to make sure there were not any bubbles or loose edges.

Now the fun begins!

All you do is draw a bead of glue of where you would like to place your piece of yarn and lay and press your yarn on top of it.

I used a bone folder to postion the yarn and lightly press it into the glue.

(I just use elmer's gel glue. It is water soluable so my tools are always easy to clean and it dries clear.)

Then I take my sharp scissors with pointy ends and snip the yarn to size.

Each piece is layed tightly against the previous one and before you know it, your design is filled in.

Feel free to change the textures and weights of the yarns in your painting and the directions you glue them in to add interest.

Just have fun!

The last step I did was to cut little circles out of white craft felt to glue in the center of the eyes.

Ta da!

This happy, playful pug yarn painting is available as note cards and a signed print in my etsy shop.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the process or if you make your own.

I would love to see and share it on the blog!
