Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner Blog Hop Week #1 - Make It Happen Journals for 2011

Hi Everyone!

Happy Thursday!

I am so excited to be a part of this fabulously fun & creative Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner Blog Hop hosted by the incredibly talented celebrity design expert, author, national TV host, and syndicated columnist, Kathy Peterson.

For the next 4 Thursdays, ending February 3rd, 7 diverse designers will be making fun and easy projects for you to enjoy.

We will all be using the Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner to create 5 projects each from images of objects that are normally too large or awkward to scan on a conventional scanner.

For week 1, I will show you how I make my Make It Happen Mini Journals!

I use these journals to write down all the fun ideas that pop in my head for everything from new projects, to fun color combinations for new sweater vests.

I find if I write them down, they happen!

People often ask how I create so many things, and this is the answer.

If I write them down, then I know I will not forget them, and I relax about them.

From that place, all of the magic begins.

Before I started using these journals I often felt overwhelmed with all the things I wanted to do.
I think I spent alot of energy trying to remember them all. :)

The process of honoring each idea by writing it in a beautiful handmade journal, sets it free.
I can then have fun with it and enjoy every minute of creating it.

Now let's have fun creating our journals!

The Flip-Pal mobile scanner allows you to scan any object anywhere without having to lay it flat on the scanner bed like large, conventional scanners.
It is compact, light, cordless and has a see through window on the back that allows you to flip the scanner over onto your object you are scanning!

I decided to scan my favorite owl pillow for the cover of my journal!

Here it is after I printed it onto a piece of card stock.
You can make your journal any size you want!
My piece of cover paper is 8 x 10.

Just fold the cover in half...

Measure the cover and cut the inside pages to be 1/4" smaller and fold them in half.
I used 5 sheets of construction paper for my book.
It is colorful and I like how it feels when I write on it. :)

Next, find the center of the paper and punch a hole with a book binder's awl or a sharp object.
I used the end of my protractor.
For the next 2 holes, I measured about 1.25" from the top and bottom of the center crease and placed a hole in each spot.

I then threaded a tapestry needle with some of my favorite bobble yarn and started in the center hole and sewed in and out of all 3 holes so that the two ends ended up on the outside of the cover in the center hole.
I tied a knot and it was done!

I decorated the inside cover of mine with a January 2011 calendar and some of my pug paintings that I made into stickers.
You can paste anything in your journal that inspires you!

Easy smeasy and super fun!

The Flip-Pal mobile scanner makes it so easy to create fun and interesting images from your favorite quilts, dolls, rugs, photos, etc. that I made 12 in less than an hour for the whole year!

  19. Love the pillow, love the journal.
Question: when scanning, is there an issue with clarity? When taking pictures, you move - the picture is blurry. With the scanner, do you need to be R-E-A-L still?
Thanks for an opportunity to win :D
