Through the eye of Emmitt ~

Hi everyone! Emmit here!

I have some exciting news to share with you!

I can see much better now that I had a procedure done on my right eye last week.

My mom and dad found out last Monday that I had two Iris Cysts in my only working eye that were impairing my sight more than any of us thought. One of them was located right in my field of vision, so it turns out that for sometime, I have only been able to see about a crescent shape of the world around me. We all noticed that curbs and stairs would sometimes surprise me, and that I would snuffle on the floor more for food rather than go right to it, but we had no idea they were there.
My routine doctors appt. shed light on the whole situation and it turns out we have a doggie opthomolgist right here in Denver that is one of the best in the country!
Dr. Chavkin drew these great pictures to explain to my mom and dad what was going on inside my eye.
It seems that one of the cysts was right in front of my iris and blocked about 20% of my vision in my only working eye. After my consultation, which I was starving at because I was not allowed to have breakfast that morning, it was decided that the procedure would really help me. So they knocked me out and shaved a little patch on my arm for my IV.
Then Dr. Chavkin put a small needle in the cyst and drained it. I was only supposed to have the one big one relieved but the little one at the bottom of my eye then floated up and he got 2 for the price of one. How great is that? :)
The nurses were so nice. They stayed with me all day while I told them how hungry I was... over and over again... for hours and hours.
When mom and dad picked me up, I was still talking and asking for lunch ... all the way home.
As soon as I got through the door I ATE and then slept!

Here I am waking up from my well deserved nap.

and here is my cute square patch on my arm.

I am so happy because now I can see!

The other great news is that my checkup was stellar and both of my doctors say that my bloodwork is perfect!
What a great way to start my summer vacation!

So now I am asking for extra food... lots of food since I missed my breakfast the morning of my surgery. Just label them Care Package for Emmitt - Rush Delivery. :)

Side Note from Melissa:
Fred and I both laughed at Emmitt as the most tramatic event of that day was his missed breakfast instead of having a needle poked in his eye!
ps... Thank you to our friend Tweedles for the idea for the title for this post. :)

  3. So glad Emmett came through everything okay and can see better. He's a real trooper, isn't he? :)Cute pix too!

We passed a house on the way to the dentist the other day and a lady was standing in her doorway. There were at least 4 pugs, all fawn colored, running around in front of her on the porch. I could tell that these were well loved. I thought of you and Emmett and how much you love pugs. :)

  11. WOW, your pawrents move fast on these things! We are really glad you are better and you FINALLY got fed. What is wrong with your mother? Does she not realize you need sustenance 24/7? She needs to plan these things so you can eat beforehand, during and after.

    HAPPY DAY- your fine.
Oh I am so happy that your eye is all fixed up now. I know not only were you hungry, but I know you and your mom and dad were probably scarred too. But thanks to your wonderful doctor friend, he knew exactly what to do.
I hope you ate lots today (treats too) to make up for it- I know what its like when your almost certain mom or dad forgot to feed you!
But now the world will look so much better and your food too.
    Sleep good tonight my friend,
