Meet Julio

Julio came to stay with us over Thanksgiving weekend. He is a parrotlet just like my Gilbert, but blue instead of green. :) Parrotlets are sweet, curious, funny and smart little birds that can live up to 20 years if you are lucky. They are the size of parakeets and so much fun.

Julio is even cute when he is blurry. I think I shot this one when he was dancing. :)

He is a very flirty birdy, always trying to get you to touch and play with him. He is smart because it always works.

My Gilbert had fun singing back and forth to him.

Here is some parrotlet inspired art I have created over the years...
My crocheted parrotlet :)

and here are two paintings I have done that are available on my Parrotlet Art website.

Melanie and I have always had birds as pets since we were 10. They are smart, loving, funny souls who just want to play and love you.

Emmitt loves his tiny green brother, but he knows who is boss. He always moves out of the way when Gilbert flutters to the floor and starts charging the dainty pug feet. :)

  1. Good morning Melissa!
Thanks for introducing us to Julio and your parrotlet Gilbert. Both are very sweet. I can just see Emmitt scurrying out of they way as Gilbert comes descending down on him....hee, hee!
I think your parrotlet artwork is beautiful!

  2. Melissa;

Both Julio and Gilbert are beautiful. I am giggling at the amount of toys in Gilbert's cage. Looks like parrotlets are easy to spoil, all of our critters deserve to be whether they are fur or feather.

I had a cockatiel a long time back, he got treated just the same, never enough toys.

    Have a great day!

  3. I love the crocheted parrotlet! And the real ones, of course. I've had a few birds, too. Budgies, but mostly zebra finches. (My whippet loved watching zebbie-tv.. lol)

  4. Aren't they beautiful (the birds) (oh, and the art!) - love Julio's colors. How nice that they each have a friend to talk to. They wouldn't last 5 minutes in this house!

  10. Julio is a heartbreaker!
What a lovely bird and so is yours!
As a kid I had a lot of parakeets. I loved them. I made them tame and were always on my desk while I was doing my homework.
Now woth 4 cats it is impossible to keep birds and I don´t like to keep them locked up all the time.
Thanks for these lovely bird images and Emmitt looks ready to be Santa´s little helper!
    The pillows look great!

  11. Lovely pictures and artwork. I have never had a bird as a pet... mainly cats, which is probably why a bird would not be a good idea. I love how your creative energy and love of animals just shines in your all pieces. Thanks for sharing.

  13. I'm not going to lie...I'm a little afraid of birds, but you make them sound wonderful! I love to admire them outside and I adore drawing them, but always worry they will peck at me...I think its Hitchcock's fault...

I am absolutely smitten with the crocheted parrotlet!

  14. Hi Melissa,
The parrotlets are beautiful! I had to laugh when you said Emmitt knows who's boss in the house. My parrot Safou has everyone here giving him a wide berth when he walks across the floor too. It's all bluster! ;)

  15. Julio is so cute Melissa, so is your Parrolet as well. Thank you for telling us what they are...I had no idea , not being a person that ever has owned a bird...there are so many different kinds.

By the way, your poodle from the below post is wonderful! : )
