Paper Bag Journal - Week 4

This cover was made from a brown paper bag!
I painted it with green acrylic paint, let it dry, and then applied a layer of modge podge and again let it dry.
After it was completely dry, I crumpled it! That's it! After fusing it to the stiffner that we use for every journal I sewed a snowflake border around with my sewing machine.

and made a fabric button with one of those kits you can get at the fabric store.

Here is the inside of my book. I digitally collaged and printed my stamps for the cover pages and sewed in a print of my new pug drawing to the inside flap.

Melanie made hers look like leather! Can you believe this used to be a lunch bag?

Next week is our last week of this class. I cannot wait to see what we make!

Emmitt has been helping me make our second bear and he says it is almost done.
He is busy trying to pick the pug hairs off of the yarn he has been laying on but says as soon as one is picked up, 3 more fall. Poor puggy. I can see he has a busy day ahead for him.
Have a wonderful day!

what a cool way to recycle a paper bag!! So much better than filling it with newspaper and leaving it on the curb - haha. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I LOVE that journal, Melissa!

Oh Emmitt, you should totally leave the puggy hairs in the yarn. I tell Mommma that it's just my signature on the work I do!

  6. Way to go with the upcycled journal! These are fun! The snowflake border is a wonderful touch... I can't believe your sewing machine does that! And yes, modge podge is a crafters necessity... that stuff rocks! Thanks for sharing. =)

  8. I LOVE that technique! The journals are beautiful...Please tell Emmitt not to worry about the extra hair. Once when i was learning how to use a drop spindle, i added dog (and cat) hair to the mix and the yarn came out very nice! :)

  10. Wonderful effects! and great details!
I showed Emmitt´s pictures to my son and we both had to laugh about all his outfits. Kids have great eye for details, Lars tought The picture was so cool of Emmitt as superman with the little helper. (I didn´t notice the little superman as first....)

P.S.- I love the bear you made for the Mother Bear Project... what a great cause... I think I might take up knitting (or crocheting) again just so I can make some too. :o)
