We created sketch books this week. I know I say this every week, but this is my new favorite structure!
It uses full sheets of paper to draw on instead of folded books and has binder rings to add more paper when needed! It also has a row of pockets on the bottom to hold pencils, papers and found objects. To make the row of pockets, I used the pug /dog fabric I bought months ago to make craft aprons.
For the cover and lining, I used the fabrics I bought on Etsy from Uberstitch . I finished it with a ceramic button from my super talented friend Tara Ross.
I love how the theme turned out to be a Retro Urban Dog Park with pugs!

Melanie's journal is wonderful too. She used our favorite owl fabric on the outside and vintage fabric that she bought years ago from a quilt store in Leadville, CO for the inside pockets.
I am definitely going to make more of these journals. They are easy to make, functional, fun and they have pockets! What more could I ask for? :)
I cannot wait until Friday when our week 3 lesson arrives in my inbox.
To make this journal yourself, Click here to see all of Sue B's classes. This one is week 2 from Journal Making for the Fiber Artist.
The classes are well written and very easy to do. If I can do them, anyone can.
Most of the journals are made by ironing fusible web to a stiffner and then very easy straight line stitching on the sewing machine to finish the edges.
What are you working on this week? Please leave me a comment and let me know. I would love to hear all about it!
I really like these new journals. The fabric is fab! Keep up the great work girls!
ReplyDeleteLove the full size paper option here with the binder rings. The pockets are a must and the fabrics are awesome. I'd have to agree, my favorite, for functionality, so far. Great work, you two.

great journals! I haven't started on the second one, yet. I will try to learn how to use the sewing machine first so I dont spend the whole week trying to finish the borders by hand! yes, I am very slow... ;)
ReplyDeleteThese do look so wonderful, colorful, fun and functional. I love how excited you are about them too! It is always a good feeling when you work on something arty and the process from start to finish is a joy to experience. Can't wait to see you next one.
